Dev Meeting 2014-11-16

Talad says: welcome to “meet the developers” event
Anysu says: Hi Talad
Talad says: this event is made for you, so you can ask us questions about development, news, …
Talad says: if you have a question please walk to the stand in front of us
Talad says: today on stage we have
Talad says: the setting team: with Mordaan and Taya
Talad says: the rules team, represented by Tuathanach
Talad says: the GM team, with Bodier and Iridia
Bodier waves
Talad says: myself as project leader, doing a bit of everything as needed
Talad says: from the engine team, Eredin
Talad says: sorry I forgot 🙂
Bodier says: ah he’s short, easy to miss
Illysia says: Poor Eredin. 🙂
Mordaan says: oh, Eredin’s hiding in the corner. 🙂
Talad says: we have the new client ready, for linux and windows
Talad says: but we have an issue on Mac
Anysu looks sad
Talad says: as there are problems in compiling it
Yurak says: What sort of issue ?
Talad says: maintaining three platforms is pretty complex, as each has its own dependencies and special build
Talad says: I don’t have the logs of the compilation, but I know there are problems with some libraries not compiling on Mac on latest PS
Talad says: weltall is managing the build
Talad says: and reported the problems
Yurak says: I do not doubt that; was weltall the reason for lack of skills for mac ?
Jawir says: Some CS requirements?!?
Yurak says: * absense
Mordaan says: weltall can’t access the mac on his vpn
Yurak says: Oh good, he is back
Talad says: should we release the windows and linux ones?
Mordaan says: some os update broke it
Jawir says: Perhaps now Apple fixed the SSH bug introducing side effects…
Iridia says: what kind of consequences would that have for players on mac?
Yurak says: So it is the newer macs that have the issues , interesting
Talad says: to my knowledge the Mac updates are always hard
Yurak says: Agreed
Talad says: as the Mac OS sometimes changes dependencies
Talad says: without thikning too much to the consequences
Jawir says: I tried a lot of times to compile on mac but I always filed :-/
Mordaan says: we were talking about what would be missing. A lot of UI enhancements would be missing, questing would be a little messed up.
Eredin says: the UI enhancements, NPC interations and some new quest features would not work on mac if we release as is.
Anysu says: If release those, mac users not be able to follow up and have acces to what others do.
Talad says: one benefit is they can update the OS more
Anysu says: Quests not working be too bad.
Mordaan says: plus they’d be missing all the new art
Anysu nods at Mordaan’s words
Jawir says: Did you tried to compile on Yosemite?
Jawir says: *try
Yurak says: Tuon Mentioned that she had some experience with mac 10.9 ps compiles, but has isp limits at present as she is not at home
Talad says: if you know some Mac developers this will be useful
Yurak says: Said she would be back in about a week
Talad says: anyway at the moment we are building through a VMWare
Talad says: as we do not have a Mac hardware
Jawir says: ah ok!
Talad says: so the idea could be to buy it
Talad says: and then do a compile there
Talad says: I’m waiting an answer from weltall on this
Jawir says: We could help to buy it!
Talad says: if he thinks this will help, we can buy it
Talad says: we have funding from donations in the bank
Talad says: (never used it btw :))
Mordaan says: Also, compiling on a mac client is one thing, creating the installers for distribution is another. But I don’t know the details of such things.
Talad says: Mordaan , yes, there is a part of building the final binaries, then the distribution is packaged on our updater server
Talad says: the first part is what we are missing atm
Mordaan says: ok
Talad says: do you have any questions for us?
Mordaan says: so all we really need is for -anyone- to be able to compile the mac client?
Mordaan says: (sorry, clueless…just trying to understand. 🙂 )
Talad says: ok, if there are no questions, we can give you updates
Talad says: Mordaan can you summarize what you are working on?
Mordaan says: sure
Mordaan says: I think what is expected in settings has been mentioned a few times, but I’ll summarize.
Mordaan says: We’ve got a few new quests and books coming in, most notably ones for bow making, a redo of shield making, and update of pterosaur travel including a BD ptero…
Mordaan says: and now since it has taken awhile…
Mordaan says: looks like the final alchemy quests will be available in this update
Mordaan says: so get ready for the Great Work of the Mystics. 🙂
Menille says: Nice!
Mordaan says: Venalan, Taya, anything else?
Venalan says: lots and lots of typos fixed
Tay says: I think you covered most of th ebig things, Mordaan 🙂
Venalan says: nothing else ‘new’ right now
Talad says: tuathanach, do you want to mention some of the things you are working on? Without spoiling it completely, but giving some info 🙂
Jemima looks at Tuathanach with kitty eyes “As many spoilers as possible tabei… Please…”
Mordaan says: 🙂
Tuathanach says: Rules are working on expanding combat, some special attacks, also as has been said before expansion of crafting to include more craftable parts
Waesed says: two handed weapons?
Kiaerulf says: Does combat expansion come with the animations?
Kiaerulf says: new ani*
Tuathanach says: Bow making and a shield review will be present after update
Mordaan says: no new animations
Tuathanach says: No new animations
Mordaan says: we have no art devs atm :/
Mordaan says: the only new art is some icons and gui enhancements.
Mordaan says: And the enki robes.
Jawir says: Yay! 🙂
Anysu says: Enki robes!
Menille smiles at Jawir
Venalan says: unfortunatly the robs only have a temporay art so dont look very nice
Anysu looks sad again
Talad says: anyone wants to draw the enki robes?
Tuathanach says: After update will be working on more expansion on combat, brewing and jewlry making
Talad says: we need the textures
Mordaan says: yeah, they are a little…gaudy? >.>
Kiaerulf says: yay … brewing
Eredin says: lol I thought that was the intention.
Venalan says: no Eredin xD
Talad says: hi Waesed
Iridia says: lol
Mordaan says: and looking now, looks like there’s some “holes” in them
Kiaerulf pokes the dwarfs and winks
Jawir says: XD
Waesed says: can anything be done about the loot system for ulbers, viles, imagos and neotens?
Eredin says: can you be more specific?
Illysia gets in line
Waesed says: I killed 15 ulbers for 1 hide and 1 claw
Eredin says: wow
Waesed says: might kill 10 neotens before getting anything
Talad says: is this happening to other players as well?
Iridia says: the loot of these mobs used to be much better
Tuathanach nods
Eredin says: that’s true
Azeron says: It happens to me too, it seemed like the loot for creatures is much lower than before. I remember killing about 10-15 tefusangs before a hide dropped as well.
Rykia says: Only with lower level beasts for me…
Enoreye says: yes it is quite hard to get anything from them
Talad says: are those tribes?
Talad says: or single monsters?
Illysia says: I don’t kill neotens but with kikiri, meat is is very hard to get meat when killing them. I had to get help killing them in mass just to get meat in a reasonable amount of time.
Talad says: will be good to know the location, as some may use the new tribe system
Talad says: and maybe that is doing something to the loot
Azeron says: for me it was not a tribe
Enoreye says: for me it was the tribe on bdroad1 by the ruins
Waesed says: maulbers seem ok, but the others aren’t
Mordaan says: loot probabilities look “reasonable”
Talad says: ok, we will check
Waesed says: thanks
Talad says: hi Illysia
Rykia says: It was the trepors out BD1 for me
Illysia says: Hello. Is it possible that players could help with the crafting expansions without the license? Things like identifying potential ingredients and working on the crafting steps aren’t the same as contributing your own dish and maybe we could help that along.
Talad says: everything that goes into the game should have our license
Mordaan says: The steps and ingredients of the new crafting will be the same, it’s the UI that will be different.
Talad says: or we will have to follow copyrights for ever
Talad says: which is a waste of time
Talad says: also i think it’s nice to have contributions from people who share the license we have
Talad says: so they want our content to be unique
Illysia says: Well, what I meant is if you need a recipe for beer, a player doesn’t have a claim on beer and can work out a recipe. It’s not a unique item. However, not everyone who is willing to do a little work on the side has signed the license.
Waesed says: maybe share your thoughts with someone that does
Talad says: ok
Talad says: I think small things are fine
Talad says: as just “donated”
Talad says: and don’t require a full license signature
Illysia says: Yes, small things to help lighten the work load and get things out faster.
Talad says: I think it’s no problem if those are not extensive work
Illysia says: Ok. I believe all players would need would be a list of items that need a recipe, a format for writing up the recipes if it differs from the books, and someone to send it to.
Mordaan says: that’s how I joined the team…just wanted to contribute and help out a bit. Next thing I know I am leading settings with Venalan. 🙂
Illysia puts her finger to her lips, “Shh… don’t tell people that until after the trap is sprung. ” 😉
Tuathanach says: Illysia you can send me recipies 🙂
Illysia says: Ok then. Is the forum fine?
Tuathanach says: yes
Illysia says: Ok great. 🙂
Mordaan says: Kaerli?
Mordaan says: question? 🙂
Kaerli says: Ah, yes…can someone fill me in as to just what is going awry with the Mac build?
Bantam says: tell kaerli No access to a Mac.
Anysu says: Noone to compile.
Talad says: seems the kernel needs a patch to compile
Bantam sighs about the missing “/”
Talad says: as at the moment the libraries we use do not ocmpile
Talad says: I do not have much details as weltall is the one doing this
Talad says: if any of you think can help, I can ask for the error log
Kaerli says: yeah, I’d like to see the logs from it
Jawir says: Kaerli, our Daredevil! 🙂
Mordaan says: weltall’s quote: “if you want mac built fast find a patch for vmware to make it work on current kernels”
Jawir says: Aham, that’s more a Vmware problem then!
Mordaan says: so makes me think if it can be done on a mac itself, we’d be good.
Jawir says: Yep!
Iridia says: k, get me a copy then too.. my bf might knwo some things to resolve that
Anysu looks hopeful
Talad says: hi Jemima
Jemima looks at Bodier and purrs softly “I see you have some experience with shrinking of persons… and had some time testing it… Errr… When is it time to shrink normal players..?”
Jemima says: I would love to be cub-sized… you know… 🙂
Anysu says: Good question Jemima
Talad says: we discussed it few times
Talad says: as adding an option to char creation
Jemima looks hopefull at Talad…
Talad says: but it didn’t realize yes
Talad says: *yet
Kiaerulf says: You would need a cub sized anvil too then Jemima
Kiaerulf says: 😉
Yurak says: ;p
Gonger says: Good one, Kiaerulf.
Venalan says: there are still some bugs with it that should really be fixed, as lots of things dont scale correctly
Venalan says: they are all on the tracker if you want to see what they are
Illysia says: Shame.
Jemima purrs “An extra test-person..?”
Yurak says: A very mewfic person
Jemima giggles “I can’t look worse thatn with that mew!! white furr I had…”
Talad says: we can ask to the GMs
Talad says: if they want to grant that
Talad says: is your character a baby?
Jemima nods “Ok… thank you for your time tabei…” and runs to her pillow…
Talad says: I see from the description
Talad says: we could try
Iridia says: everyone knows Jemima is a cub, so I am ok with modifying her size
Jemima says: A cub tabei…
Talad says: but I guess you will run slower
Talad says: which is a problem
Iridia says: true
Talad says: at the moment size and speed are linked
Talad says: will you accept slower speed?
Azeron says: Does that mean krans run faster? lol
Venalan says: run slower, but full sized on a mount, scaled items but not scaled effects, jump isn’t scaled
Jemima nods “I do tabei…”
Bantam says: No, we don’t.
Talad says: Iridia can you try to scale her to 0.7 ?
Talad says: or 0.8?
Iridia says: sure
Talad says: can another enki female go next to her?
Talad says: just to measure :
Talad says: )
Jawir says: Yay!
Mordaan says: yay!
Damola grins
Jemima looks hopefull “Mew..?”
Menille says: How cute!
Yurak says: Step back Jemima for view
Talad says: I think it’s too small
Waesed says: looks good, Jemima
Gonger says: Looks not bad, but what about armours and stuff?
Talad says: is that 0.7?
Bantam treads extra carefully around the enki kitten.
Iridia says: 0.8
Illysia pats little Jemima on the head
Talad says: try 0.85 please
Iridia says: ok
Talad says: mmmm
Talad says: 0.9 ?
Illysia says: She looks good her head just needs to be a little bigger for a kid.
Mordaan says: heh
Talad says: I think looks good
Talad says: seems a teenager
Jawir says: she seems more shrinked than 90%
Talad says: but not too small
Mordaan says: can’t scale by body parts…it’s all or nothing. 🙂
Jemima purrs loudly “Thank you tabei.!!”
Azeron says: looks nice
Iridia says: the difference is obvious enough
Damola nods
Iridia says: & you’re welcome
Talad says: ok, you can stay like this if you want
Talad says: you can try to run next to another enki female
Talad says: and see how much you lose
Jemima says: I would love to tabei…
Talad says: I think it will be 10% slower
Kiaerulf says: Would it be slower on a mount too?
Talad says: I think on mount should be identical
Iridia says: not sure
Damola ponders “Maybe that makes for nice pic of the day?” 🙂
Talad says: but can be tested
Iridia says: I once made myself bigger to escape from players during an event
Iridia says: my mount definetly was faster
Jawir says: lol that’s cheating! 😛
Talad says: ok
Talad says: any other question?
Talad says: we are at the top of the hour
Kiaerulf looks at Semutara and Gonger
Bantam says: Hm….
Talad says: hi Kiaerulf
Kiaerulf says: I have a quick request
Bodier says: GM’s don’t cheat, we innovate
Menille says: Will jewellery be wearable?
Jawir says: lol
Iridia says: indeed Bodier
Kiaerulf says: Could someone please fix the calendar?
Talad says: bracers are 🙂
Iridia says: gobble necklaces too
Talad says: I fixed the calendar today
Talad says: so this meeting should now be at the right time
Talad says: does it show ok for you?
Kiaerulf says: Next two scheduled meeting seems to be off like this one was too until last night/today
Menille says: The craftable ones I mean:)
Mordaan says: once jewelry making is in, yes, it will be wearable, with buffs included. Like rings or amulets are now.
Talad says: right, I need to fix the next ones
Menille says: ahh thank you
Kiaerulf says: k, thx
Talad says: hi Bantam
Bantam says: Little newbiew(?) question: The resizing of Jemima reminded me… … Is there a way )or one planned) for looking where you are not running? (other than the “free movement”)
Talad says: press m
Talad says: there are different camera modes
Venalan says: pressing ‘M’ cycles camra mode in windows
Bantam says: I know… but none of them seem to really work for this.
Talad says: “free movement” will allow you to look in another direction
Kiaerulf says: … and linux as well
Talad says: maybe confusing
Gova says: You’re talking about looking around without turning in first person view?
Talad says: in free movement, run with keyboard, then keep the middle mouse button to look around
Bantam says: I can look around while standing, but not when moving, except with the free ovement mode which has the disadvantage that it doesn’t even gradually correct itself to move the camera back behind you.
Talad says: apart from that, there is no other way
Talad says: but middle mouse button seems to work ok for me
Illysia says: Free rotation might work better for you.
Illysia says: It doesn’t adjust back to looking forward.
Bantam says: In the past, I found on WoW and ROM (other MMORPGS) that looking around (incl. zooming) while running (in aanother direction) and then correcting to look where you are running was easy. Here, I can’t really get this to work.
Talad says: we need to wrap up
Talad says: thanks for your participation
Firke says: I’ve set my tab key to toggle mouse look.
Evaraj says: that should work with free rotation mode
Talad says: and we hope to find a solution to r
Bantam says: On, ROM I can do the following (very,m very useful): steer with one mouse button if I wish but turn the camera with another and also zoom…
Talad says: the Mac client this week
Kaerli says: speaking of the Mac client Talad: Celroc suggested the idea that Mac users could run the Windows client under Wine
Bantam says: This way, I can orient myself in a landscape much better, and also get a good look at, Jemima, for example, without having to make a spectacle of running all the way close to her.
Iridia says: personally; I dont have good experiences running games under wine Kaerli
Bantam says: OK, thanks.
Talad says: that’s always possible, but it may be a problem with high graphics settings
Talad says: or particles
Talad says: can be a workaround
Talad says: but Mac users are not always techy
Talad says: so Wine is not the best option
Talad says: good bye! See you in the next event
