Dev Meeting 2014-05-04
Talad says: Hi
Talad says: we updated the calendar with this event only few minutes ago
Talad says: so I guess we will have lower attendance
Talad says: but that’s ok
Eonwindd says: hi
Talad says: ok, we can start
Talad says: as mentioned we updated only recently the calendar
Talad says: but we have now added the ones also for next month
Talad says: we should pay more attention to this
Talad says: this event is OOC
Talad says: you can forget for few minutes your characters
Talad says: and speak as a player
Talad says: some updates on our side:
Talad says: we are preparing a setting update
Talad says: rules is busy with improveents and enhancements to the combat system
Talad says: while engine is improving the UI and fixing some new bugs
Talad says: we really didn’t start yet on new features, as we are stil stabilizing the items we added in 0.6.1
Talad says: but we will get to new features pretty soon
Talad says: today on stage we have quite some devs!
Talad says: Mordaan and Venalan from setting
Talad says: Eonwindd and Tuathanach from rules
Eonwindd says: hello 🙂
Mordaan says: almost as many devs as audience. 🙂
Talad says: Tay from setting as well
Talad says: and Eredin from engine
Talad says: myself as project manager
Talad says: hi weased
Waesed says: I was wondering if we could get something like tip jars
Waesed says: To tip entertainers and bartenders
Talad says: mmmm…
Talad says: like containers?
Eredin says: hmmm…interesting idea. do you see it as deposit only? or could people rob it too?
Eonwindd says: what are tip jars?
Waesed says: when playing music you cannot accept anything
Eonwindd says: ah got it
Mordaan says: well…you can drop tria into the world now.
Talad says: if you want to avoid robbing, trading is probably easier
Waesed says: if guarded, only the person it is assigned to could withdraw from it
Rheos says: But not possible while the musician plays Talad
Mordaan says: maybe we need a lira case that doubles as a container. 🙂
Acerage says: I don’t think tria can be put into containers, though.
Talad says: what about collecting all money at the end of the performance?
Mordaan says: ah, I haven’t checked
Waesed says: that is what is done now but is combersome if many want to tip
Talad says: maybe then a container guarded by someone who disconnects?
Talad says: so it’s not guarded after some time
Talad says: I’m saying this because making a non guarded container is not trivial
Talad says: meaning we need to add something to the engine
Venalan says: you can just unguard an item
Waesed says: I did not know what it takes
Venalan says: rather than make one that isnt guarded to begin with
Eonwindd says: yep
Waesed says: and set it on the stage and bar
Talad says: can you unguard by command?
Waesed says: we will call the guards if someone steals from it
Eonwindd says: maybe just allowing the musician to accept incoming trades while playing too?
Venalan says: yes talad
Talad says: how?
Venalan says: ./guard
Venalan says: with the tiem selevted
Venalan says: selected*
Eonwindd says: true
Talad says: oh that’s cool
Venalan says: lol
Mordaan says: 🙂
Evirea says: That’s brilliant.
Talad says: waesed can you take the unguarded potion of healing?
Talad says: I dropped it in front of me and /guard
Talad says: seems to work ok
Mordaan says: of course, this is how it’s been since guarding was added
Talad says: and I guess with containers will be similar
Eonwindd says: it is
Waesed says: works ok
Talad says: not this one 🙂
Mordaan says: yes, it does say “you cannot place money in there”
Talad says: can you place the potion into the chest?
Talad says: I unguarded now
Waesed says: something to accept tria is the problem, I think
Eonwindd says: because money are not an item
Talad says: mmm.. yes
Talad says: offerings can be in terms of items atm
Talad says: ok, we can think about it
Mordaan says: would it be too much of an effort to make tria droppable into containers without changing too much?
Waesed says: thanks
Talad says: I remember seeing some comments on dropping money to the ground?
Mordaan says: yeah, that was recent
Waesed says: that canbe done
Talad says: I dropped few circles
Talad says: in front of me
Mordaan says: you just can’t drop them into containers.
Talad says: ok
Talad says: maybe dropping the circles on the ground and /guard
Talad says: then the performer can take the money at the end
Talad says: but stealing will be possible
Waesed says: yes, we will try that for awhile
Talad says: ok, are there other questions/comments
Talad says: is the new combat system ok?
Waesed says: Maybe use a crate or something to set them on so they can be seen.
Resildren says: is the new combat system up?
Eonwindd says: there are still bugs in production
Talad says: we started to add icons for the combat moves
Talad says: which you can see in your cient already (if you check the art folder)
Eonwindd says: the new code is running abut aside a few bugs you can’t really notice any difference
Talad says: still working on the special moves and such
Talad says: but the new code is now on our test servers
Talad says: and being tested
Talad says: first objective is to release the setting update
Talad says: then we can focus on the combat
Evirea says: Yay settings!
Talad says: Mordaan/Venalan can you give some details on that?
Talad says: like what and when?
Waesed says: what will that include?
Mordaan says: Should be very soon(tm) 😛
Talad says: I just loaded 25 new books
Talad says: which are part of the release
Lytoza says: hurray!
Resildren wistles and claps
Venalan says: 20+ new quests, 20+ new books, access to lots of new crafts, rebalancing of glyphs, finishing of quest chaning with dialog to hlep you go to the next quest
Venalan says: and lots of minor bug fixes and little changes/additions
Mordaan says: all in all it’s going to be a huge settings update. 🙂
Resildren looks under the seat for the update
Tay says: It’s too big to hide there 🙂
Evirea snickers
Talad says: on the wiki you can find other ideas we are working on
Talad says: like generation of dungeons
Mordaan says: a good range of quests, too. Some to teach and introduce skills, some that are cultural, and some really fun ones.
Talad says: and house building
Resildren peeks under Evirea
Talad says: but those are yet to be started
Talad says: let me ask you something
Talad says: will you be interested in having a voice chat capability in PS?
Evirea isn’t big enough to hide it either.
Talad says: like you press C and you chat through microphone
Eredin says: I would never use that.
Venalan says: me neither
Resildren says: humm could be fun, with multiple channels?
Waesed says: that would be nice for us slow typers
Acerage agrees with Eredin.
Talad says: I used it in another game, and really changed my perspective on it
Eredin says: my voice and my characters voices sound very different and it would destroy the illusion.
Talad says: it’s really easy to organize things with people this way
Mordaan says: not my cup of tea either..though I’m sure some will enjoy it.
Tay says: Wouldn’t work for me either.
Talad says: you could use some voice changer programs
Talad says: to sound the way you want
Evirea says: I wouldn’t because…yeah. My voice doesn’t sound like Evirea’s. I mean I could try to make it sound all hissy and stuff but my family would probably hire an exorcist.
Venalan says: I can image it being terrible easy to abuse
Primatus says: yeah, besides, we really don’t have the situations that demand voice comms
Mordaan says: lol
Eredin says: lol
Talad says: well, speaking
Tay says: Awkward for those who want text based RP as well, if others will then insist on voice.
Venalan says: and what if you dont want to talk? you end up with the game split between talkers and typers
Talad says: instead of typing
Talad says: you can have a program read your text?
Talad says: 🙂
Talad says: after I tested it I found it very interesting
Waesed says: that would be usefull
Primatus says: TTS on the *receving* end might be nice though
Eredin says: Bandwidth demands for that would be high too…might affect lag.
Talad says: voice chat within your group?
Evirea says: It wouldn’t work well for actions I think.
Evirea says: Character actions in RP.
Eonwindd says: text to speech are weird if used for real communication
Talad says: are any of you using skype while playing with others?
Evirea says: I mean it could but it would be like having a novel read to you.
Primatus says: Talad: no, and you’re talking to someone who makes *heavy* use of voice comms in the other MMO he plays
Talad says: I’m thinking to char creation, where you also create the voice of your char 🙂 will be unique!
Eredin says: that would be unique.
Evirea says: Hm…
Waesed says: yup
Primatus says: I think the biggest breaker for the TTS idea though is the way RPers tend to merge actions and dialog
Venalan says: I also never use sound in game so would have on idea what is going on
Primatus shoots Evirea a glance “Isn’t that right, Vire?”
Talad says: the setting will be used to change your voice while you speak… imagine Kran voice..
Evirea says: Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that!
Eonwindd says: I think it would be best to enable monsters sounds before that 😛
Evirea sticks her tongue out at Primatus
Talad says: ok ok
Talad says: was just an idea
Talad says: hi Acerage
Acerage says: If we are discussing updates to the chat system, can we get more full featured text editing in the chat line? CTRL movement between words, text highlighting, etc.
Mordaan says: maybe some day, but for now other pressing things first.
Mordaan says: like, yeah, creature sounds. 🙂
Primatus says: yes
Primatus says: text editing + copypasta
Eredin says: and a better music system
Venalan says: having more features in chat would be very useful
Talad says: copy/paste is surprisingly hard
Talad says: meaning that each platform (linux, win, macosx) requires very different code
Talad says: this is one of the reasons why we didn’t do it
Talad says: but surely will be good to have
Waesed says: what about a /load command?
Acerage says: I would appreciate copy/paste less than just the other features I’ve come to depend on in editing, like I suggested.
Primatus says: yeah, it does. part of the problem though is that the relationship of the game to its UI toolkit is bass-ackwards IMO *laughs* but yeah, a /loadtext command would be a good stopgap
Eredin says: “/loadtext” wouldn’t be hard, I don’t think.
Eonwindd says: but looks like an hack 😛
Primatus says: it is a hack 😛
Eredin says: it is
Talad says: hello kabitar
Kabitar says: Greetings.
Kabitar says: A question concerning the new combining formula.
Kabitar says: Horned helms use ulber claws very late in the recipe. Could there be a way to refine them to get the quality a bit up? Sharpen them for example.
Eonwindd says: we can think about that
Tuathanach says: It is possible
Kabitar says: Thanks.
Primatus says: So, on ranged weapons….what’s holding up the show on more ranged weapons? Both throwing weapons of some flavor and crossbows would be appreciated over here, although I suspect the former’s easier than the latter
Mordaan says: Ah that’s one of the things that -won’t- be in this settings update…bow making
Eonwindd says: we lacks the art for crossbows
Primatus says: yeah, crossbows would need art, which is annoyingly painful b/c of moving parts, no?
Mordaan says: The quests aren’t ready yet. The prospect who was helping with those disappeared in December. :/
Eonwindd says: however we’re introducing new alchemic preparations that works like grenades
Mordaan says: lol
Primatus says: I noticed on the alchemical preparations. I take it the proper recipes for those will be out with this update?
Waesed pictures maulbers blowing up
Mordaan says: the good news is Tuathanach may help out with those quests time permitting.
Tuathanach says: 🙂
Mordaan says: So they’ll be in the next update.
Eonwindd says: not sure, the recipe have been fixed but we’re not certain the fix will be released in the settings update
Primatus says: TY Tua. that’ll be a huge relief as being stuck with looted weapons is a massive hinderance
Rheos says: Following on from the question about the horns…
Mordaan says: Ah, and a few new NPCs will be added in this release as well.
Rheos says: Someone mentioned to me that knives and daggers were being affected by quality drop in the same way… will leather knife handles be craftable soon?
Tuathanach says: yes
Tuathanach says: but not in this update
Rheos says: thanks, i’ll let them know
Resildren says: I’d like ask for a bit of clairafication, on enchanting crystals, it seems right now the only way to get the higher q’s on enchanting the crystals seem to be from having a higher LVL in mining, , is that what was planned?
Resildren says: or is theree something I’m missing?
Eonwindd says: when magic armor were released it was planned that way
Eredin says: buy from someone with a high mining skill.
Eonwindd says: mages could buy from miners higher qualities crystals
Resildren says: ok thanks, I see
Primatus says: Is there a reason rooting, stuns, etal are of such short duration?
Eonwindd says: yes
Primatus says: Care to explain?
Eonwindd says: those effects actually blocks the players interaction (you can’t move your character) so we don’t want to steal the control from the players for too long
Resildren takes a sip of his coffee
Resildren grins
Haraun gets a beer (evening here)
Primatus says: The problem there is that rooting and stuns also are one major factor in making kiting gameplay from mages a fully legitimate activity
Eonwindd says: also a too long time could lead the helpless character in to high threat from the attacker’s friends
Eredin says: what do you mean by ‘kiting’ ?
Primatus says: and one of the major problems this game faces is the difficulties experienced by ‘squishy’ mages…the idea that a mage *must* learn weapons and HA in order to avoid being Ulber/Consumer food isn’t so great.
Talad says: kiting = run away, come closer, repeated
Primatus says: Eredin: using a speed advantage of some sort to hold a foe at range while attacking them with ranged weapons or magic
Eonwindd says: magic is already quite powerful
Primatus says: Talad: that’s hit and run skirmishing.
Eonwindd says: it’s overall easier to take down an ulber using spells than using weapons
Primatus says: Eonwindd: it’s only powerful if you have the HP/tank to survive while using it
Eonwindd says: don’t make them catch you 😛
Waesed says: not really, long range spells work fine
Eonwindd says: if you hope to stay still and win that’s a little too much 😛
Primatus says: Eonwindd: yes, right now, that depends on either a) being mounted (which is legitimate) or b) quirks of the NPC AI where NPCs hesitate under certain circumstances (which tends to draw howls of protest from some)
Eredin says: I use my mount to accomplish this anytime I’m hunting big game…
Eonwindd says: freeze, cast DoT spell, run away, repeat
Primatus says: Eonwindd: hardly 😛 what I’m saying is that improved stuns would open up more options for mages
Waesed says: and NPCs- maulber killed me when I couldn’t move
Eonwindd says: imo it would make them even more powerful 😛
Primatus says: Yeah, Ulber/Maulber stuns are very powerful atm
Primatus says: Eonwindd: yes, and right now, in some ways, mages still actually aren’t as powerful as their weaponuser equivalents
Eonwindd says: of course they are, they are meant to be the most challenging opponents in game
Primatus says: …I thought that title was held by Dlayos or Onyx Daggers? 😛
Eonwindd says: Primatus: we’re working on improving some of the ways
Primatus says: good.
Waesed says: nope, I use swords on them, magic on maulbers
Eonwindd says: especially the ones that still lacks way specific features
Eonwindd says: like blue way and azure
Eredin says: I think for pvp’ers, longer stun times would destroy the play.
Talad says: yes, we need to be careful with that
Talad says: ok, we are pretty much at the end of the hour
Talad says: any last comments from the devs?
Waesed says: keep up the good work
Eonwindd says: 🙂
Talad says: ok, then thanks for participating!
Talad says: see you in the next event
Primatus says: Oh one last thing: is there an actual ETA for the settings update?
Resildren appauds the dev team
Talad says: few days
Kabitar claps for the dev team.
Eonwindd says: goodbye!
Talad says: bye
