Dev Meeting 2015-02-08
Talad says: Hi Menille , everything ok with PS on your Mac?
Allena starts a slow clap for the devs
Menille says: Wondeful thank you:)
Talad says: ok, we can start
Talad says: welcome to the “meet the developers” event
Talad says: this event is completely OOC
Talad says: today on stage we have Mordaan from setting department
Talad says: eonwind from rules department
Talad says: Eredin from engine department
Talad says: Iridia and Zunna from GM team
Talad says: and myself as project leader (old but still here!)
Menille chuckles
Talad says: if you a question you can walk to the stand in front of us
Talad says: and ask your question
Talad says: otherwise we will provide you with some updates
Talad says: about latest developments
Talad says: let’s see if someone has a question or comment
Mordaan says: And for the record, that mini-update we have been talking about has gone live. No client update, just server only.
Mordaan says: We’ll post a changelog soon.
Bekier says: \o/
Mordaan says: So fixes following the major update.
Calmus says: Hello, I’m wondering if there will be more polearm weapons, and what is the reason there is just one?
Eonwindd says: Hi Calmus
Eonwindd says: right now we have only one because we lacked a few models for some polearms, plus there was a problem introducing them as they couldn’t be held in both hands
Calmus says: ok this answer is satisfieng, thanks
Eonwindd says: now the last problem is fixed so in the future we can release a few more of them
Calmus says: are there already models of new ones?
Calmus says: or needs it still work?
Talad says: the both hands weapon animation should be fixed sooner or later
Eonwindd says: however it will take time as we’ll have to develop their crafting as well
Talad says: it’s a problem we are having since some time
Calmus says: ok good
Talad says: same is valid for quarterstaff
Gonger says: Greetings, and thanks for your work.
Talad says: hi Gonger
Eonwindd says: Calmus as for the weapons models we have some and we still lack a few
Eonwindd says: hi Gonger
Gonger says: Before the update, the shortcut window arrows were working on three OR one field, now they are only working on three fields shifting. Why was this changed?
Eredin says: if i understand the question, it’s because moving through the shortcuts with the arrows and then back put shortcuts in different locations.
Gonger says: It was more flexible when the upper arrows moved only by one field left – right.
Eredin says: the change is *intended* to make he shortcuts always display in the same location when scrolling or paging around
Eredin says: true
Gonger says: So it will stay like this? I have the impression that most players prefered the former solution (upper arrows shift 1 field, lower arrows shift three fields)
Eredin says: I received a lot of feedback about its inconsistent behaviour the other way…so changed it thinking that the current way is a more widely desired approach.
Kohinor says: jemima has a good idea for shortcut “menus”
Kohinor says: personally I find the present arrangement unweildy
Talad says: we could add an option for that, but at the moment is not planned
Gonger says: Ok, thanks for the answer.
Allena says: So we are coming up on the Yliakum new year. I was thinking it might be kind of fun if we had like a like OOC year (april, I think, right?) end awards to recognize contributions to the community and game, devs, GMs, and players alike. Thoughts?
Kohinor says: the shortcut “menus” can already be implem, ented under the existing arrangement
Mordaan says: Sounds like a forum thing.
Eonwindd says: looks like fun XD
Iridia says: indeed
Zunna says: 🙂
Eonwindd says: we had some the other years
Allena says: Yeah, forum was what I was kinda thinking as well
Eonwindd says: sounds good, maybe you can go ahead and open a post 🙂
Talad says: can Mordaan or Eonwindd summarize the changes of the small update?
Eonwindd says: sure
Talad says: after Demagul question
Talad says: hi Demagul
Eonwindd says: ok
Demagul says: Hi, so I was wondering what the construction and/or housing system will look like in the future.
Talad says: there is a page on our wiki describing a bit of that
Talad says: basically the idea is to have components you can assembly
Talad says: based on plans you make with an architect of the city
Talad says: so you will find the right NPC architect, plan with him the different pieces needed
Talad says: and then build the house
Talad says: the pieces are preconfigured and fitting to each other
Talad says: so for example you can decide the basement
Talad says: then the type of walls
Talad says: and then rooms like living room, kitchen, etc…
Talad says: that will give the overall shape to the house
Talad says: but then furniture will be added by you
Talad says: the cost of the house will depend on the pieces you choose
Talad says: and also the time of build
Talad says: abou the location we have to think how to do it
Talad says: meaning we need to dedicate some empty areas to this
Talad says: so people can build villages out of new houses
Talad says: for example in outdoor
Talad says: like the grass areas to the road to ojaveda
Evirea says: Thaaaaaat would be cool.
Bodier mutters we’ll need lawn mowers now
Kohinor says: would soon become a metropolis and we would soon ru nout space
Talad says: there is some overlap with huildhouses
Kaerli says: haha Kohinor
Talad says: *guildhouses
Talad says: but I think some of the inside can be reused
Mordaan says: I wonder if a skill/job could be used with this, too. The one I see is “masonry”
Gonger says: Will there also be more individual characters? Different sizes, faces, looks, etc?
Kiaerulf says: I guess we would need to pay guards to protect the houses from thugs and ulbies too if they are build ouside the town
Kohinor shakes mordaa hand
Eredin says: gonger, the faces are essentially limited by the availability of artwork, ie. art devs.
Talad says: scale is virtually already availble
Kiaerulf says: grand idea
Eonwindd says: Gonger the goal it to make base chars as customizable as possible
Eredin says: but the character morphology is next up behind the crafting gui on my priority list.
Talad says: we just need to add it to char creation
Gonger says: Don’t get me wrong, I understand that this implies a lot of work!
Gonger says: Ok, thanks again.
Talad says: Eredin how is the scale in char creation proceeding?
Talad says: is that still something you are working on?
Mordaan Sneezes
Mordaan says: 😛
Talad says: maybe not
Talad says: … 🙂
Eredin says: Talad, I have reviewed the current scaling, and character cstuomization will eventually need to be implemented differently to avoid some current issues.
Talad says: ok
Eredin says: It’ll be implemented by configuring the bone size of the models, because CEGUi can’t properly manage collision detections with scale, and because of the scaling of jumping and speed.
Gonger says: Yes, Demagul, but still we need more new players.
Eredin says: so the short answer is : yes, I’m actively working on it.
Talad says: Mordaan , Eonwindd can you summarize the new small update?
Talad says: we have released it last week
Eonwindd says: sure
Eonwindd says: For Rules we fixed a few bugs about Bows, a few of them were unusable due to a wrong DB vzalue, that should be fixed, new spells should be researchable as well
Mordaan says: oooo
Eonwindd says: I confirm they are researchable now 😀
Eonwindd says: (sorry that was a brief test)
Zunna says: 🙂
Kiaerulf says: Would it be too much to ask which way those spelss are? 😉
Eonwindd says: they were reported in the previous update log
Eonwindd says: anyway they’re mostly blue and a crystal way spell
Mordaan says: For settings, basically fixes in for stuff in the big update.
Mordaan says: So followup quest fixes.
Talad says: meanwhile rules is working on brewing and jewelry
Talad says: will be hopefully released soon
Menille claps
Gonger says: BEER!
Mordaan says: yes, now that the update is in, work can proceed there. 🙂
Zunna says: ahah indeed
Evirea says: Jewelry will be fun.
Eonwindd says: yes I’ve juss fixed a few bugs in brewing 😉
Eonwindd says: so alpha testing has officially started 😛
Kaerli says: will we see more enchanted-item crafting when jewelry comes out?
Iridia says: \o/
Eonwindd says: yes
Eonwindd Hicups
Mordaan says: heh, fixes… we -allll- put the yeast in! 😉
Menille grins
Talad says: I was thinking the other day to have a way to inspect the beverage quality with some visual effects
Eonwindd says: other than enchanted jewelry we’ve just completed shield enchantment
Talad says: but I guess will not be easy to do
Iridia says: sounds good tho
Eonwindd says: Zunna or Iridia is that you?! 😀
Talad says: like you see the liquid on screen, and you can see color, impurities, …
Iridia says: not me
Eonwindd says: Zuuunnnaaa XD
Zunna says: nop! who you think eheeh
Kaerli says: also — are there any plans to implement poisons and/or venoms?
Kaerli says: or will that require engine work first?
Talad says: Eonwindd can you comment on venom?
Kaerli says: (i.e. as player-usable things, not just venomous NPCs)
Eonwindd says: Kaerli that will require some engine work to work as intended
Kaerli says: aaah, I take it it’s a scripting system limitation at the moment?
Kaerli says: (i.e. attaching scripts to items dynamically)
Eonwindd says: as we need a way to add temporary or re-chargeable items
Eonwindd says: sort of Kaerli, we’d need a few scripting facilities
Talad says: if there is nothing else, we can wrap up
Demagul says: Wait I think I have a question.
Firke raises his hand.
Eonwindd says: like completing the half-implemented charge system
Gonger says: Queue up for questions 🙂
Eonwindd says: (items with charges)
Firke says: Hello.
Eonwindd says: hi Firke
Gonger says: Ah, those kids, no discipline…
Mordaan says: 🙂
Firke says: I was just wondering if combat was being worked on and if a fix would be release in next update?
Eonwindd says: Firke what kind of fix are you referring to?
Firke says: Like how now the place wear you hit the attack button doesn’t change when you move.
Zunna says: How you mean?
Eonwindd says: Anyway about combat we’re working on the new combat system and soon we’re going to load some new attacks in testing
Eonwindd says: I don’t understand
Firke says: I can hit fleeing npcs 20 yards away with my axes.
Iridia says: I believe I saw that on the bugtracker indeed
Bodier says: that wouls sound like a bug
Eonwindd says: seems strange, as far as I know range is not broken
Demagul says: The player Lialym’s having trouble contacting the GMs but wants to be teleported here.
Eonwindd says: I’ll take a look
Zunna says: There she does Demagul
Firke says: It is the fist attack after you press attack that is messed up.
Eonwindd says: ok thank you Firke
Eredin says: oh, I did see a ticket about that but haven’t investigated it yet.
Talad says: ok, thanks everyone for participating
Talad says: and see you in game!
Iridia says: Jilare did I think
Talad says: we hope to release some new pieces in the next few weeks
Talad says: have fun with PS!
Bodier says: Bye Talad
Bodier waves
Kabitar claps for the dev team.
Damola claps
Zunna claps too
Gonger says: Thanks again for your work.
Eonwindd says: 🙂
Iridia says: noticed that it makes dueling kind of hard too
Eonwindd says: you’re welcome
Firke says: I can press attack asd an npc runs away, but because they were close when I initiated attack, I still hit them off a ways.
Kaerli says: one more thing — has any progress been made with the scripting support for recoverable ammo, btw?
Eredin says: firke, checking the status of that bug report, hang on
Eredin says: kaerli, no.
Kaerli says: aah
Eonwindd says: no Kearli, but … in the next client update (art actually) you will see your arows travelling from your bow to the target
Kaerli says: nice
Mordaan says: One final question, Demagul ?
Demagul says: I don’t know much about coding, but would it be possible to make the poison modifier similar to indigestion, and maybe it would require fewer changes doing that?
Eonwindd says: Demagul the problem is not in the poison handling once the attack has been made
Eonwindd says: the problem is making a poisonous weapon not a permanent venomous one
Eonwindd says: like you should be able to poison your weapons the poison will run our after you hit a few times
Eredin says: firke, I’m sorry, I’m not finding that bug report. I do think Jilare looked at it so it’s probably fixed but could be wrong. could you also take a look and if you don’t find it then open one?
Demagul says: But in the case of foods, I mean. Would it be possible to give it similar qualities to Kran food being eaten by non-kran, but for everyone?
Kaerli says: Eredin: it’s in there
Demagul says: Sorry, I worded the question weird the first time.
Bodier says: would a one shot weapon be possable? use onece Q!’s drop to 1/1 ?
Eredin says: I feel certain it is kaerli I’m jsut not finding it at a quick scan.
Eonwindd says: do you mean ingested poison?
Kaerli says: Eonwindd: yes
Demagul says: Yes. Mine is sort of a followup to Kaerli’s question.
Kaerli says: Eredin: 6745
Eonwindd says: ingested poison is something we can do right now
Firke says: That’s good news, Eredin. I look too.
Eonwindd says: but the reason why I haven’t made it so far it would not be much useful except for RP
Kaerli says: Eonwindd: that’s exactly why we want it — especially with an incapacitating poison (one that defeats the character instead of killing it)
Eonwindd says: as you should decide to consume it yourself, poisoning a weapon it’s something that will be much more interesting in term of gameplay
Eredin says: thanks kaerli. firke looks like its bounced back to engine.
Enarel says: yeah, poison tipped arrows would be nice
Kaerli says: yeah — would poisoned arrows be possible in the current system?
Enarel says: since they are techically a one time use
Eonwindd says: yes they would be
Firke says: flaming arrows too?
Eonwindd says: yes
Kaerli says: (there are some simulationist-side issues that envenomed blades bring up, despite them being a common fantasy trope)
Eonwindd says: but flaming arrows will be a special attack we’re working on
Eonwindd says: so once the combat system project will be released you will have the opportunity to fire flaming arrows
Eonwindd says: given you have high enough ranged skill and all
Menille says: Many thanks to the Devs and GMs for their dedicated hard work!
Eonwindd says: 🙂
Zunna says: 😀
Bodier says: just keep them out of chat !
Eonwindd says: lol
Iridia says: Youre welcome 🙂
Evirea shouts: And thanks for the increased involvement of the GM and Dev team in story-events.
